uterine artery embolisation

Uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE)  is a non surgical, mimim invasive, endovascular procedure performed by putting in a catheter into the brachial artery and then catheterizing the uterine arteries directly. The embolization particles are injected through the catheter into the fibroids vessels. The fibroids are infarcted and they shrink. This is a very effective treatment, the symptoms disappear in more than 95% of cases.

UFE was introduced in 2000. Until now approximately 200 000 women had the benefits of this technique.

In 2008 the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) established UFE as a line A therapy (first line) of the fibroids.
